SEC Ends PayPal Stablecoin Probe Without Enforcement Action
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has closed its investigation into PayPal’s dollar-pegged stablecoin PYUSD, marking a significant regulatory win for the payments giant. The probe, which began in November 2023 with an SEC subpoena for documents, concluded this month without any enforcement action.
This decision follows a broader trend of the SEC dropping crypto-related investigations, having informed over a dozen firms of similar case closures. Stablecoins—digital assets tethered to fiat currencies—continue gaining mainstream traction as regulatory clarity improves.
